The group, mooted by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in the wake of Frank Dobson's review of children's play last year, will include a number of departments including education, health and the Home Office.
The work will start following a meeting between the DCMS, Frank Dobson and Lottery distributors that will examine how funding bodies will distribute cash (see p7).
A DCMS spokesman said the group would have a very wide membership.
"You can be sure that if they've got an interest in any aspect of child development then we'll be getting them in," he said.
