Janet Dalglish MBE has campaigned for play and playwork training formore than 60 years. She received London Play's first Lifetime in Play inLondon Award from culture minister David Lammy at a reception at theHouses of Parliament last week.
The event's host, Liberal Democrat MP Tom Brake, said Dalglish was a"wonderful and inspiring champion of children's right to play".Nominator Jan Cosgrove, chief executive of Fair Play For Children, saidshe was "a play phenomenon".
Dalglish helped set up the first playwork training centre, WestminsterPlay Association and the International Play Association. She stillattends policy meetings. She said she got involved in play through herfamily: "I was the eldest of an extended family and was expected to keepthem occupied and amused."
