Play: Lottery cash boost for London scheme

A 225,000 Lottery grant is to be used to help strengthen play opportunities for London's most disadvantaged children.

The money for London Play's Partners in Play project will allow theorganisation to appoint a development worker who will work with agenciesthroughout the capital to improve play policies and services.

Dr Ute Navidi, director of London Play, said: "The new post gives usextra capacity to reach out into the boroughs where perhaps we haven'thad much contact up to now and help play organisations outreach tocommunities that have been deprived of good play opportunities."

Children from ethnic minorities and refugee or asylum-seeking familiesare among those London Play hope to reach out to. The Big Lottery Fundgrant will support the work for the next three years.
