Play: Parliament group will take action

The new All-Party Parliamentary Group for Play will be about action, not just words, its key members pledged last week.

A date has now been set for the group's first meeting in December andinvitations have been sent out to peers and MPs. Labour MP HelenGoodman, who will chair the group, said she was confident of securingthe 20 members needed to have the group officially recognised.

The playwork unit at SkillsActive has been behind plans for thegroup.

"We don't just want it to be one that meets every month to have mattersout," said Jilly Evans, public affairs officer for SkillsActive. "It isgoing to be more of an action group that moves forward with issues."Goodman agreed she wanted the group to be about taking action.
