Penny-wise pupils - Young savers' delight at early financial advice

Welsh deputy minister for regeneration, Leighton Andrews, launched a savings club for parents and pupils in Cardiff last week.

Every Friday morning during the school term, volunteer parents representing Cardiff Credit Union will run a savings collection point at Meadowlane Primary School, as well as offering financial advice. The local housing association, Hafod Housing, has supported the venture by helping to provide goody bags for each child who joins the scheme. Andrews said: "Savings clubs and credit unions are crucial in our battle to combat financial exclusion. They provide realistic savings and budgeting advice."
