Participation: Youth mayor makes plans for Lewisham

1 min read

Emanuel Hawks, 16, the London borough's first youth mayor, also plans to run confidence-building workshops.

The plans will be funded using a 25,000 budget and 12,000 of additional money from the police and the health service.

Emanuel also plans to set up a directory to inform young people about local activities and a web site, Be Involved, to provide information on citizenship, rights and volunteering.

Dennis Hunter, adviser to the youth mayor at Lewisham Youth Service, said: "Community safety is a big issue, so Emanuel has been working with the police to set up workshops to develop self-defence and confidence skills."
