Participation: Young trained in media relations

The council delivered initial training in a one-day session on Saturday.

A further session will follow in six months.

Clare Oliver, the organisation's head of policy and communications, said: "We wanted to get a wider range of young people to talk specifically about their experiences and on issues important to them."

The 14- to 24-year-olds learned how to deal effectively with the media by picking up skills such as giving interviews and being briefed on campaigns.

They will be sent regular updates on issues affecting young people to ensure they are continually prepared for their role.
