The Community Development Foundation, which managed 79 per cent of the 665 Neighbourhood Support Fund projects that took place between 2000 and 2006, has found that almost 50,000 young people participated in its projects, which cost just over 58m to run. The cost of working with each young person was 1,181.
The evaluation found that the community-based nature of the projects helped to recruit and retain young people.
Jayne Humm, research manager at the foundation, said: "The evaluation shows the value of rooting youth activity in a community setting."
