The Hansard Society has been awarded the money to ensure pupils too young to vote do not lose out when European, local and London Assembly elections take place on 10 June.
"The idea is to give young people a taste of democracy, which will hopefully be the start of a lifetime of participation," said Fiona Booth, programme director at the Hansard Society.
More than 3,000 secondary schools ran mock elections during the 2001 general election and Booth is hopeful a similar number will take part in June.
The money will pay for teachers' packs of equipment such as ballot boxes and voting papers.
