Hansard Society organises mock youth elections

Young people throughout the UK are being encouraged to take part in mock elections to coincide with the European elections on 4 June.

The Hansard Society, a parliamentary democracy charity, has developed the free Y Vote pack - available to download from www.mockelections.co.uk - will all the information schools, youth clubs and other organisations need to stage a mock election.

It includes a step-by-step guide to running an election, ballot papers, poll cards, rosettes, activity ideas and lesson plans.

Ed Balls MP, the secretary of state for children, schools and families, said: "The website shows how schools might organise mock elections so that pupils can experience some of the excitement of an election and get a real taste for active democracy.
