G-Nation, part of the Citizenship Foundation, which was set up to increase youth giving, is due to publish findings in a fortnight based on annual research into young people's giving habits since 2002.
The shortage of positive stories about young people and the causes they support is identified as one of the main barriers to stimulating giving among young people, who charities widely regard as the most difficult age group to recruit.
The report says: "Our research has found that when young people perceive their peer community to be charitable, they are likely to be charitable themselves."
It adds that the lack of coverage of positive young people's stories is "one of the most difficult tasks" confronting those who wish to change attitudes.
