Northern Ireland: Youth charity takes on negative media

Koulla Yiasouma, director of Include Youth, said: "It comes from our experience last year with the introduction of antisocial behaviour orders. When children's organisations highlighted the dangers of the orders for young people through naming and shaming, the media painted us as lunatics. It struck us that there is a big need for a debate on this area."

Antisocial behaviour orders came into effect in Northern Ireland last year, but so far no-one has been issued with an order.

The media's handling of stories about young people has been under increasing scrutiny since the launch of Young People Now's Positive Images campaign, which is urging the media to portray young people in a more balanced way.
