Participation: Lancashire council withdraws ambassador scheme backing

1 min read

The programme, which helped earn the council awards for youth engagement, was to be expanded internationally through a partnership with four European countries (YPN, 24-30 May, p5). But Marcus Johnstone, the new cabinet member responsible for children and young people, has decided to withdraw the council's support for the scheme.

"I have a budget deficit of 2.6m and I have an overspent balance of 600,000," Johnstone told Young People Now. "There's no way we can carry on with the scheme. But I'd like to pay tribute to the young people involved."

The youth ambassador programme was supported by a consortium of national organisations including Changemakers and The Prince's Trust.
