The Y Vote Mock Election project, run by the Hansard Society in conjunction with The Electoral Commission and the Department for Education and Skills, will culminate in a vote by young people across the UK at the same time as the rest of the country goes to the polls.
The project aims to show how young people would have voted, especially 16- to 18-year-olds if votes at 16 were introduced. Y Vote is due to be launched in Westminster on 8 February and will provide activity materials for youth workers and teachers through the project's web site.
Beccy Earnshaw, outreach manager at The Electoral Commission, said the project was keen to get young people outside of schools involved and would be providing advice on how to adapt the materials for youth work settings.
