Participation: Foyer residents to encourage voting

1 min read

The Foyer Federation, which received 30,000 from The Electoral Commission's New Initiatives Fund, will be using about 12 young people from Foyers around the country to help kick-start a voter registration drive starting this month.

The young people will also receive training on speaking to MPs, said Garmon ap Garth, young people's co-ordinator at the federation. Meetings are now being set up with politicians at the Welsh Assembly Government, the Scottish Parliament and at Westminster.

As part of the drive, information packs will be sent to Foyer managers to help encourage registration. "The information pack will have suggestions on how to hold hustings meetings at their Foyer, and ensure young people have the right forms," said Garth.
