Your article highlighting the difficulties for young people in care attending university reflects the experience of many young people (Children Now, 26 October-1 November). Since 2002 a project run by the Foyer Federation has helped more than 400 residents study at university. Working with the Department for Education and Skills and higher education institutions, we help students access an annual bursary of 1,000. This has helped many students from non-traditional backgrounds reach their full potential and is a model for how disadvantaged young people can be supported.
Garmon ap Garth, young people's co-ordinator, The Foyer Federation.
