The event is planned to be repeated every year. Young attendees, who will be accompanied by youth workers, will be informed about the Children's Commissioner's work during the previous year and asked what their priorities are for the following year.
The Office of the Children's Commissioner is currently talking to groups it has already worked with to find the young people who will attend, and is aiming for a diverse ethnic and geographical mix.
"We will set aside at least half of our budget to be spent on the ideas young people come up with at the event," said Rob Williams, chief executive at the Office of the Children's Commissioner, at 4Children's Putting Young People First conference earlier this month.
