Voluntary organisation North of England Activities and Training has complained to the Local Government Ombudsman on behalf of 200 young people about the treatment they received.
The young people claim an application for funding was delivered to the youth service in mid-December 2006 but say that seven months on, they have still not reached a second- interview stage. They claim that meetings were set up at inaccessible times and there was inadequate notice given.
Chris Johnson, chair of the group, said it had applied for £100,000 to fund a specially adapted minibus and outdoors activities over the summer holidays. A spokesman for the ombudsman said it investigated complaints to determine whether there had been a “maladministration causing injustice”. If it believed there was, it would recommend action fitting the initial complaint.
