Bradford replies to fund criticism

Youth Work
Bradford council's director of children's services has sought to defend the way its youth opportunity fund is managed after complaints from local young people.

Haarisah Khan, Sumera Shah and Hafza Khan wrote to CYP Now last week (15-21 January 2009) after Bradford Youth Grantmakers had failed to tell them what was happening with their funding application, despite having applied for the cash in August 2008.

But Kath Tunstall, strategic director for services to children and young people at the council, claimed the service is "a vibrant, peer-led voluntary organisation". She added the complaint would be dealt with through the council's usual procedures.

In April 2008, the charity North of England Activities and Training accused the council of mismanaging its youth opportunity fund (CYP Now, 9-15 April 2008).
