Parents take lessons on their children's education

A Gateshead primary school is running classes to help parents support their children's learning. St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary School's project, Keeping up with the Children, involves workshops to teach parents how their children are learning at school. Parents who attend the workshops, which focus on literacy skills, also receive resources to use at home, such as cards to help children learn through phonics. Jennifer Ostell, the teacher in charge, said: "The workshops are good fun and very useful for both the children and their parents."
