The Department for Children, Schools and Families report, National Survey of Parents and Children, also showed that one in six children believe there is no point talking to their parents about something important. A fifth of children were classified as "extreme risk-takers", characterised by strained family relationships. Parents were relatively ignorant of the risk-taking their children had admitted to.
Other findings showed that one in eight parents lacked confidence helping their child at school.
