Parents in education lose out on funding

1 min read Early Years Education
Parents in further education are slipping through gaps in childcare funding, a report released this week has found.

Funding for parents aged over 20 in further education often fails to cover the full cost of childcare, which can end up excluding parents who need support a report by the Daycare Trust and Nutfield Foundation has said.

Furthermore, the amount of money allocated for childcare for this group of parents has actually decreased, despite a rise in the cost of childcare.

The report, Childcare for adult learners in further education, also found funding does not cover eventualities like paying for a deposit to secure a childcare place.

Maxine Hill, policy and research manager at the Daycare Trust, said: "This group of student parents needs more certainty in the financial help they receive with their childcare."
