
The impact of this could be that parents are not taking advantage of free childcare available to them, researchers have warned. The Parents' access to and demand for childcare survey, carried out by research and consultancy company DTZ on behalf of the Scottish Government, will be used to inform the new childcare strategy for Scotland, due to be published later this year.
The study involved more than 1,000 interviews with parents of children aged from birth to 14. It looked at parents' access to and use of childcare, as well as take-up of benefits and the free childcare entitlement - currently 12 hours a week - as well as use of childcare information services.
