Overseas trip to inform ministers

Early Years
Scotland's early years minister Adam Ingram has visited a Norwegian nursery where children spend most of the day outdoors, in search of ideas for the country's early years strategy.

The Scottish minister's visit is part of work being carried out to develop an Early Years Framework that will attempt to develop a more multi-agency approach to childcare in Scotland as well as focusing on the needs of vulnerable families.

Ingram visited Filipstua nature kindergarten, where children spend most of the day outside learning about nature through activities such as building nest boxes for birds or gathering edible berries.

"There is a lot we can learn from Norway and the success of its child-centred approach and its emphasis on investment in young people," said Ingram. "Examining the approaches taken by other countries will help us develop our joint Early Years Framework and help individuals, families and communities secure the best outcomes for future generations."
