A sector skills council has told youth workers not to be put off organising trips for young people, following a verdict of unlawful killing in the case of a young man who drowned on a residential.
Herve Bola, 16, was on a personal development trip organised by the London Borough of Redbridge when he died in July 2002. SkillsActive, the sector skills council covering outdoor trips, said it would be damaging if the inquest, which concluded last week, put people off.
A SkillsActive spokesperson said: "If guidelines are followed there is no reason to feel worried. It would be a great tragedy to deny young people the learning experiences trips offer."
The Community and Youth Workers' Union said it may seek a judicial review of the verdict.
