Opinion: Vox pop - Was it a good year for the children's and youthsector?

This year has seen the appointment of the first Cabinet-level minister for children and young people and the promise of unprecedented amounts of investment in out-of-school services for teenagers. So was it a memorable year?

From where I'm sitting, it's been a year full of hope for the future. Most significant was the publication of Aiming High for Young People. This was the most positive strategy I've read in many years for the future aspirations of children and young people. It sets clear proposals for what the government intends to do and there's a lot of scope for voluntary youth work organisations to help deliver services in partnership with statutory youth service providers. This is especially so when it comes to engaging young people in the design and delivery of services.
