Opinion: Vox Pop - Should the Early Years Foundation Stage be extended?

1 min read
Dame Gillian Pugh, the chair of the National Children's Bureau, has called for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to be extended to older children, but some oppose the curriculum, saying it is too prescriptive as it is.

YES - BERNADETTE DUFFY, HEAD OF THOMAS CORAM CHILDREN'S CENTRE, CAMDEN, NORTH LONDON

I think it would be a jolly good idea. It would be going back to the old infant school model where everyone follows the same curriculum up to the age of seven. The EYFS is based around themes, which is what we did in infant school when I was little.

People have got good memories when they think back to infant school and the projects they did. We know what is important is the child's attitude towards learning and having a good sense of self, which is all part of the EYFS and its thematic approach.
