The regulatory changes would ensure that all early years providers carry out an assessment on every child who is in the final year of the EYFS, and would give all local authorities the power to require this assessment information from early years providers. This will include all non-funded children and providers, plus schools that are exempt from registration with Ofsted.
The proposals seek to simplify EYFS data collection and give clear statutory foundations for the early years providers that voluntarily offer individual child information over and above what is required. The government intends to amend current regulations in mid-2009, subject to the results of this consultation.
