The latest worry over young people's health and happiness comes from a researcher who spent time looking at their night-time behaviour under the bedclothes. And concludes that no good can come of it.
In a survey of 2,500 young people, Belgian psychologist Jan Van den Bulck found that computer games and mobile phones interrupted the sleep of most adolescents. Up to one in five also said they were awakened regularly by friends texting them late at night.
The result is disturbed sleep patterns. Even when they are not woken by a ringing mobile or received text, young people sleep more lightly.
