OPINION: The Ferret ... digs behind the headlines

It might be because they are complicated. Or involve a lot of people.

They might be controversial. There might be conflicting laws. Whatever.

You can make your own list of knotty problems - bullying, racism, antisocial behaviour ... However much pundits might go on about these things, most people accept there are no simple answers. Things can be made better, but the problems are not going to vanish.

Yet there are some solutions that are achievable. These are problems that could and should be solved because they don't involve a massive number of people, aren't controversial and aren't particularly complicated.

Like the problem of girls in prison. No-one thinks it is a good idea to have women under 18 held with older prisoners. The Government is against it. So is every rational person who has ever enquired into it.
