A hedonist is someone who thinks the purpose of life is to seek pleasure.

But what is a zedonist?

They are the current generation of teenagers, as identified by youth market analysts. They are today's version of the so-called Generation X, which was itself followed by Generation Y. To sell to young people you need to know what makes them tick. So marketers spend a lot of effort trying to work out what that is.

The Independent describes what the newly discovered zedonists are like.

Dubbing them "mild child" teenagers, it says they "enjoy quiet nights at home" and "view their parents as friends". More than half the 500 young people aged 17 to 24 surveyed said they would not want to spend the whole of Saturday night at a party because it would "wipe out the rest of the weekend". And a stonking 94 per cent described their ideal night out as getting a takeaway meal with friends or going to the cinema.
