It is part of the Scouts' song sheet. Woodcraft Folkers have been belting it into the campfire night for a decade or more. Many kids chanted it in the playground and had it reverberating round their heads for the rest of the afternoon.

But a youth worker from Cheshire claims he wrote the song in the middle of a field near Nantwich while out on a Cub and Scout excursion in 1985.
