Opinion: If I were in charge of ... sport in schools

Matthew Windass, 14, If I was in charge of sports in schools I would make them more compulsory, so that children would be encouraged to take part in more sporting activities.

I think sport in school is important because it gets children involvedwith sports, which in the long term can lead to sport being aprofession.

In my opinion, PE isn't performed enough in schools to producesportsmen/women who can take part in representing their country.

If you ask many children what their favourite school subject is, they'llrespond with "PE", mainly because they think it is an easy lesson. Buttaking part in PE can improve fitness and agility, and help you mix withother people in teams.

Teachers also want an extra incentive to supervise after-school sportsclubs. They could be offered more money, extra time off work (to make uphours) but really this is something they should be interested indoing.
