Opinion: If I were in charge of ... The family courts - Jasmin, 16,Norwich

1 min read
If I were in charge of family courts I would make the courtrooms much more informal to try and make the young person feel much more relaxed.

I want everyone to realise that they are there for the young person andthat all decisions made should be based on what they feel is in the bestinterests of the young person and that alone.

All young people who enter family court should be made completely awareof what is going to happen during their time in court and all possibleoutcomes after the hearing.

I would also like to change the number of people in the court rooms as Ibelieve it should be kept at a bare minimum.

This is to prevent the young person feeling daunted and intimidated.People such as the usher, I feel, have no real place in the family courtrooms. I therefore would remove them if I was in charge.
