Opinion: If I were in charge of education - Emily Cameron, 16,south Yorkshire

The first thing I would do is bring back student grants. The Government says it wants more people to go to university but if it wants them to study that badly then it should pay. I would pay for people with parents who aren't working. I think all courses should be eligible for grants to make it fair for all students.

I wouldn't make schools independent. That's just a way of making theGovernment not have to bother paying. If schools were independent, andthe Government pulled out only a little bit financially, it would makeall schools struggle so I'd stop that.

I would stop there being so much pressure on kids to get top marks. There are a lot of exams that aren't really needed. Like Year 9 Sats. There's no point and it's too much to do when you're trying to preparefor GCSEs.

I would keep the Year 6 Sats because they help decide what sets kidsshould be in.

I would make sure that school library books were always updated, especially for subjects like ICT, where what you need to learn isconstantly changing.
