Opinion: If I were in charge of ... school - Charlotte Coles, 12, Surrey

If I were in charge of teachers, I would put them in detention because they put children in detention just for missing a little bit of homework when they have done it, they've just left it at home. During detention the teachers would have to write 1,000 lines.

I'd make sure teachers didn't tell children off for no reason and I'd stop them embarrassing children in front of the class.

I'd allow two breaks, each up to an hour long. Children could do anything they liked in these breaks with no boundaries. However, they'd have to stay on school premises as it's dangerous outside.

When it snows, I'd allow children to play outside in it instead of making them stay in classrooms. If it snowed in lesson time, I'd allow children 10 minutes to play in it, but they'd have to catch up at lunch.

I'd provide more healthy food. There'd be fewer chocolate bars and more fruit. I'd also make salads cheaper. They can cost up to 1.70.

Children would get to do more athletics and they'd have three choices for PE.

On Friday you'd get to wear your own clothes but I'd keep uniform for the rest of the week so people know what school you go to.

I'd only set homework on a Tuesday and Wednesday as it's not fun having it all the time.
