Road safety is important for everyone, but is often overlooked. People should be encouraged to ensure they're visible in poor light by wearing fluorescent bands, promoting the message "Be seen and be safe!" There's clear evidence that accident rates can be reduced when fluorescent gear is worn.

Flegg High School and Norwich firm Meltemi have developed the Starwalker road safety bib for use by primary school children. We've received a Deutsche Bank Spotlight Award for our work. The bibs will hopefully lead to a dramatic cut in the number of children injured or killed on the roads.

Many teenagers own bikes, but some don't ride them properly, causing danger to themselves and other road users. All children should have some form of road safety training. We became the first high school in our area to offer a cycling proficiency test to pupils. Cyclists must also understand the need to wear safety helmets when cycling to prevent head injuries.
