Opinion: If I were in charge of ... Adoption - Larry, 16, Norfolk

1 min read
I would change the way the media looks at adoption. They are only portraying one side of the argument and not fully showing adoption.

They are portraying it stereotypically about the people who adopt - couples, families, and stable environments, which children need. But they don't encourage single parents, homosexual couples or people from multi-racial backgrounds to adopt.

I don't think it's the whole industry at fault but maybe adoption agencies are pushing that side of the argument too. To begin with it would help if the adoption agencies gave the media both sides.

I would change the age when adoptive young people are able to trace their birth families. Legally you can only start when you're 18 but I would like it to depend on the maturity of the child.
