OPINION: HOT ISSUE - Will Brent Council's latest ad campaign deterdrug use?

2 mins read

NO - Frank Warburton, director of DrugScope

Evidence shows that information campaigns alone will not change young people's behaviour. Lack of information is just one reason why young people begin to misuse drugs. The campaign is a step in the right direction, but it is important that young people get consistent messages.

We would hope the campaign complements the drugs education within Brent's schools. There is no evidence of this and the education department is not listed as a service contact. It is encouraging to see a part of the web site (www.streetpulse.co.uk) devoted to parents, but some of the messages conveyed are inconsistent.
