YES - Tris Reid-Smith, editor, The Pink Paper
Young people's sexuality is not always clearly defined and it can take time for them to realise their sexuality. But there is an advantage to keeping records about their sexuality to see if young people are using the youth service.
Obviously, this could act as a barrier if young people were compelled to give information about their sexuality, so it would be better if it were optional.
Another difficulty is that you can't check on the information and there will be some young people who deep down are gay but are worried about how they will be treated, so will lie about it. The statistics will be a bit shaky but you have to start somewhere.
