OPINION: Hot Issue - Has the DfES responded to concerns onaccreditation?

The announcement to reduce the accreditation benchmark is an example of how voice and influence have been more than a token gesture.

The Government has listened to concerns relating to targets and responded reasonably. This is reinforced by the fact that the minister has stated realistic expectations in recognising that, nationally, youth services have different starting points, something we have to recognise continuously.

The targets should be embraced, since this is the first time in a generation that youth services can state their claim as providers of high-quality alternative and complementary learning opportunities.
