Citizenship education equips young people with the knowledge, understanding and skills to play an active, effective part in society as informed, critical citizens who are socially and morally responsible. It aims to give them the confidence to work with others and have an influence to make a difference in their communities, whether locally, nationally or globally.

The citizenship programme for 16- to 19- year-olds is giving young people the opportunity to get involved and become active citizens. Citizenship education is an ethos and a way of working, rather than a curriculum.
