YES - Simon Carter, head of public relations, the Scout Association
Uniformed youth work organisations tend to be older, larger and have better resources than other youth organisations. That can be a disadvantage, because with such large organisations it is difficult to make changes quickly; but what we do have are the resources to provide the stimulating activities that young people need today.
One problem is insurance. Some organisations have been forced to take activities off the curriculum because they just can't get cover. Scouting has its own captive insurance company, so we can reduce the risk. We don't get people dictating what activities we can do. We are able to provide activities that challenge and excite today's young people.
