YOTs MUST SUPPORT TRAINING

Mike Thomas makes some interesting points on the impact of the proposed youth offending team (YOT) funding arrangements for the youth justice foundation degree (CYP Now, 30 April-6 May).

Perhaps most important is the question of the viability of the foundation degree itself - it seems the funding situation will not get any better over the next few years.

However, it is important that students who have embarked on this degree have the opportunity to complete it. That is only fair. And in terms of the continuing numbers who choose to take it, the experience of the students themselves will be crucial. I hope we provide an experience that encourages practitioners to be thoughtful about the impact of their practice on the lives of young people in their care and it is imperative we continue our efforts to deliver this.
