CHARITY HAS SCIENTOLOGY LINKS.

In describing the work of drug education charity Narconon, your columnist Anne Longfield omitted to mention its links to the Church of Scientology (CYP Now, 13-19 February).

Narconon's website (www.narconon.org) names the founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, as the "source of the methodology". DrugScope and the Drug Education Forum feel strongly that the charity should be more upfront about these links so professionals can make informed judgements about it.

We have concerns about the quality of information used in its programme, which does not always appear objective or evidence-based. Where the programme has been independently evaluated, it has not been shown to be effective.
