Your otherwise excellent summary of the Children's Plan (CYP Now, 9-15 January 2008) repeated an error made twice in the plan itself, describing a proposed move to "age not stage" testing. This actually refers to the current position which it is proposed to move away from. However, the plan also refers three times to the recommendations of expert groups about teaching tailored to children's needs and based on their "stage not age", which the Department for Children, Schools and Families confirms is the correct term. Let's hope the confusion can be sorted out before the wrong mantra takes hold of us all.
