Regarding the news story 'Legal body refutes shortage claims' (CYP Now, 23-29 January), the Legal Services Commission is wrong. It is perfectly obvious that more solicitors are refusing to do legal aid work.
We have found this occurring on a regular basis and many of the firms we recommended in the past for legal aid no longer do it. One really good solicitor we know left a firm because it was no longer willing to do legal aid. She then joined another as head of its family law department. However, she has now left this firm as it, in turn, has stopped doing legal aid cases.
