On the Ground: Down at my club - Shaftesbury Youth Club, The Wirral

1 min read
James Doyle, 16, Shaftesbury Youth Club, The Wirral.

I began coming here years ago and then became a volunteer. I now co-ordinate 10 other volunteers, making sure they're working in the right place, and I help to identify areas in which we need more people. For example, two run a coffee bar and we have volunteer sports coaches.

We also offer trips. We go to North Wales and the Lake District and do all sorts of activities.

Having somewhere safe and secure to socialise is important. Everyone does what they want, from playing pool to chatting.

We're trying to get more girls to join, so we're offering activities such as girls' fitness nights.
