MPs on Parliament's Public Accounts Committee made the call last week ina highly critical report on Government efforts to tackle childobesity.
Branding the policy "confused" and "dithering", MPs claim the Governmenthas acted too slowly to the epidemic. The Government has yet to publishmajor sections of its delivery plan, they point out, while the keymessages on obesity will only reach children this year when a publicinformation campaign is launched.
The committee also criticised the complexity of involving 26organisations in combating the problem and the Government's lack ofsuccess in working with the food industry to change marketingapproaches.
The report added that the committee's concern that parents were notbeing informed if children were overweight has led to the Governmentreconsidering the move.
