And because every flight was heading for a UK airport, one can assume that for the past week, mountains of ash from smoked Marlboro Lights and Mayfairs have been piling up somewhere in this country.
Now, I'm a reformed smoker (or rather a smoker who just hasn't indulged in his habit for the past 10 years or so), but as you know, we're the worst at telling others to follow our lead. Action on Smoking and Health (Ash) estimates that one in seven 15-year-olds regularly smokes and two out of every three adult smokers began smoking before the age of 18. Scary numbers, so it's great to see the Deborah Hutton Campaign launching its Cut Films competition, which challenges young people to make a short creative film about "why smoking isn't cool".
